MASQUELIER's® OPCs & Anti-Aging

Ageing can be defined as a progressive slow-down in various processes regulating the interaction of cells, tissues and organs in the human body. While aging is a natural process programmed in our genes, it is also significantly influenced by environmental factors such as diet, lifestyle, smoking, physical exercise, stress, exposure to environmental pollutants, etc.

The ageing process manifests itself within numerous organs and tissues. With age, eyes undergo structural changes that lead to a decrease in visual function. There is also increased occurrence of more serious disorders that can result in blindness, such as cataract (clouding of lens), macular degeneration (common cause is blood vessels behind macula weakening and leaking with age), glaucoma (fluid and pressure build-up in eye) and retinopathy (blood vessel fragility and leakage in retina). There are also changes to the cardiovascular system with age: The heart grows slightly larger with age and its performance is reduced. In addition, blood vessels lose their elasticity. Consequently, circulatory efficiency decreases under normal conditions and during sports activities. Blood vessels walls become structurally weaker, leading to fragile and leaky capillaries, and reduced venous function. The structural changes in blood vessel walls also enhance risk of cholesterol and other lipids building up in blood vessels, increasing risk of diseases like atherosclerosis. Furthermore, dramatic changes occur in the appearance of the skin with increasing age, which are due in part to a progressive destruction of the delicate architecture of the connective tissue components (collagen, elastin, glycosaminoglycans, fibroblasts). Another feature of aging is increase in levels of free radicals in the body. This is linked to decrease in efficiency of antioxidant systems as well as decreased levels of antioxidant nutrients from diet due to decreased digestive and absorptive capacity. Increased levels of free radicals cause damage to various cells and tissues, trigger inflammation that causes several diseases, and accelerate the aging process.

Decades of scientific research has demonstrated that. MASQUELIER’s® OPCs acts at various levels to support health during aging. MASQUELIER’s® OPCs

(1)Significantly strengthens blood vessels by supporting collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycans which are key constituents of blood vessel walls. Through these actions, the phytonutrient maintains healthy cardiovascular system, supports healthy vein function particularly in legs, and decreases capillary fragility and leakage in eyes and skin which ensures structural and functional health of these organs.
(2)Is a very effective scavenger of free radicals. It thus protects vital systems in the body such as the heart, blood vessels and skin from free radical damage and inflammation triggered by free radicals. In addition, by protecting LDL cholesterol from oxidation by free radicals, MASQUELIER’s® OPCs can reduce risk of age-related degenerative diseases such as atherosclerosis.
(3)Supports skin health through its beneficial effects on collagen and elastin as well as its antioxidant activity. By supporting collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycans, which are essential structural components of skin connective tissue, MASQUELIER’s® OPCs maintains resilience, elasticity and hydration of skin, and thus preserves healthy skin during aging. By scavenging free radicals, MASQUELIER’s® OPCs reduces the damaging effects of UV radiation on skin which accelerate the aging process in the skin.
